Processing the Noise

I very much see that the Empire is falling. Everyday waves of dead fish crash onto the shores of Florida. 1000s of Indigenous women are missing and/or dead in Canada. Hate groups like Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer, have been holding “Unite the Right” rallies in multiple states.  The local utility company Puget Sound Energy has been building a Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) tank to hold 8 MILLION GALLONS of LNG. There is a lot of information to be found here.  Without proper permits. Meanwhile, Tahluquah, a south sound whale resident, has been carrying her dead calf on her head, or in her mouth, for 17 straight days, in grief, as the calf died within a half hour of it’s birth. Her family stays close by, nourishing her and taking turns carrying her calf in an intricate grief ritual…or a message to us that we have set off a chain reaction we cannot undo.

This is 2018. The rich are getting richer. The middle class are maxed out on credit card debt.  This summer has been a radical one, where I’ve dusted off my junior high civics knowledge, read a lot of different things and got a bit more radical. I have been protesting the NorthWest Detention Center, I have been attending City Hall meetings. I have been making connections with neighbors (housed and unhoused).  There just aren’t enough hours in the day or ability to process all of the things that are bombarding me.

On a personal note, I didn’t pass the edTPA. I don’t know what that means, yet, but it’s a major hiccup. My ego is surprisingly coping well with the failure, but I have put in hundreds of hours on researching/writing/editing and re-writing. I’m sad and angry.

My brain is so distracted by the emboldened hatred and increasing financial difficulties of myself and everyone around us. We need to dispel this myth that hatred and racism aren’t nearly as terrible as it seems because the media is amplifying the loud minority. That may be partially true, but the other half of the story is that there is blatant bigotry being practiced daily in Washington state.
